Hastings Choral Festival 2004In May, the Humming Birds performed a concert set and ran their popular workshops at Port Macquarie for the festival.
The Humming Birds toured for Musica Viva in Schools to the South Coast region of New South Wales over 5 weeks this year. The girls played in schools in Wollongong, Bega, Jindabyne, Nowra, Bundanoon, Marulan, Ulladulla, Queanbeyan, Goulburn and many other towns in between. This season is being performed by Mara, Jarnie Birmingham, Lisa Spence, Virna Sanzone and Kate Swadling.
The Humming Birds performed their second workshop tour of the Far North Western region of NSW over five weekends in August and September 2003. Mara, Jarnie, Lisa and Virna Sanzone were again sponsored by Arts North West along with Musica Viva CountryWide and performed in eight regional centres: Moree, Barraba, Inverell, Narrabri, Gunnedah, Tamworth, Tenterfield and Glen Innes, finally culminating at the historic Glen Innes Grandstand with a massed choir concert featuring most of the choirs and the Humming Birds.
Following the huge success of a similar road tour in the region during 2002, (see below) the Hummies returned by popular demand, this time flying to a different regional centre each weekend for five weeks, conducting intensive workshop sessions with the local choirs and performing at a local concert held by each of them. The choirs then travelled to Glen Innes for workshops and performances in the final weekend concert.
Glen Innes Show Society’s catering on the final weekend managed to satisfy the entire cast and audience all weekend. Yummy!
Musica Viva in Schools 2003.In 2003 the Hummies performed at schools concerts in the North Coast region of NSW. During the tour the girls also ran a vocal workshop in Pt Macquarie with local group Cantabile. In Sydney the girls performed widely in metropolitan North for MVIS.
The Humming Birds performed at Sydney's premier recital hall at the Sydney Harmony concert on May 17.
Humming Birds ran a 3 week season of voice workshops with regional choirs in Armidale, Tamworth, Tenterfield, Barraba, Glen Innes, Narrabri, Inverell and Moree in April - (yes that's the same centres as the return series above!). The finale workshops, and spectacular concert featuring all the groups, were presented on the Queen's birthday weekend (June 2002) in Moree. The feedback from participants and presenters showed what a stimulating and uplifting experience this project was for all concerned.
